
CCSU Softball Holds On To Top Fairfield, 5-4
Alina Varga Earns The Win In The Pitching Circle
The CCSU softball team scored five runs in the top of the first inning, and the pitching of Alina Varga and Adrianna Green made those tallies stand up, as the Blue Devils held on for a 5-4 non-conference home win over the Fairfield University Stags on Tuesday afternoon. The victory gives Central wins in back-to-back outings and raises the team's overall record 4-13. Fairfield slips to 4-12 so far in 2025.

KEY MOMENTS FROM TUESDAY'S VICTORY:
- CCSU struck for five runs in the bottom of the first, as eight of the first nine Blue Devils reached base.
- Those first inning runs came across the plate on a two-RBI single by Skylar Warn, an RBI-double by Reagan Vunak, and RBI fielder's choice by Ava Cino and another RBI single by Abby Meehan.
- All four of the Stags runs on the day were unearned, as the scored on a fourth inning sacrifice fly and pushed across three runs in the top of the seventh on a ground out and two wild pitches.
- Kassandra (KC) Machado went 3-for-4 at the plate for the winners on Tuesday with two doubles and a run scored.
- Reagan Vunak went 2-for-3 on the day with 1 RBI, a stolen base and a double.
- CCSU starter Alina Varga (2-6) had a fine day in the pitching circle, as she worked 6.2 innings in which she allowed no earned runs on five hits with six strikeouts.
- Adrianna Green recorded the final out of the game on a strikeout to earn her second save of the season.
