
Softball Earns Doubleheader Split Versus Siena
CCSU Takes Game Two, 5-2
The Central Connecticut State softball team earned a non-conference doubleheader split at home on Thursday afternoon against the Siena College Saints, as the Blue Devils erupted for five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning in game two to erase a 2-0 deficit on their way to a 5-2 victory. The Saints won the opener, 9-0, in five innings. With the split, CCSU is now 7-15 overall; while Siena moves to 11-10 so far in 2025.

KEY MOMENTS FROM THURSDAY'S GAME TWO WIN:
- Siena jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the nightcap with single runs in the first and fourth innings.
- The Blue Devils stormed back with five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to wrap up all the scoring in the game.
- Kassandra (KC) Machado tied the contest with a booming two-run, home run to leftfield, her sixth big fly of 2025. She now has 18 career home runs in a CCSU uniform.
- Abby Meehan would then give the home team a 4-2 lead which they never relinquished with a two-RBI double to left, and Sophia LoPiccolo would give Central some insurance with an RBI-single.
- As a team, CCSU had eight hits in the game two victory led by a pair of safeties form Reagan Vunak, who stayed red-hot at the plate going 2-for-2 and reaching base all three times in the contest, as she also drew a base on balls.
- Alina Varga continued her excellent work in the pitching circle of late earning her third straight victory as a starter to raise her season record to 4-6. Varga pitched a complete game in which she allowed seven hits with four strikeouts and two walks.
KEY MOMENTS FROM THURSDAY'S OPENER:
- The visiting Saints scored all their runs in the first three innings.
- The CCSU offense was limited to only four singles in the opener coming from four different players; Joslyn Teal, Adriana Manory, Victoria Oliveira and Kendra Grove.
- Adrianna Green was the starter and losing pitcher for the Blue Devils in game one working three innings.
- Gracie Granate came out of the Blue Devils' bullpen to fire two scoreless innings of relief in which she fanned three batters.
