
Blue Devils Drop Both Ends Of An NEC Doubleheader At FDU
Knights Take Game One, 5-0, And Complete The Sweep With A 3-0 Victory
It was another tough afternoon on offense for the Central Connecticut State softball team, as the Blue Devils were blanked in both ends of a Northeast Conference doubleheader at FDU on Friday afternoon, as the Knights took game one, 5-0, and completed the sweep with a 3-0 victory in game two. CSSU has now been shutout in four consecutive outings. With the two losses, CCSU is now 12-21 overall and 7-4 in conference action, and with the two wins, FDU moves to 17-15 overall and 9-2 in the NEC.

KEY MOMENTS FRIDAY'S GAME ONE:
- After a scoreless first two innings, FDU would score three runs in the bottom of the third to take a 3-0 lead.
- The hosts added single runs in the fourth and the sixth innings to make the score, 5-0.
- CCSU was held without a hit until the seventh inning when Grace Lawton singled.
- Kassandra (KC) Machado and Adriana Manory drew bases on balls in Friday's opener.
- Liz Hamilton (7-4) took the loss in game one for the Blue Devils working a complete game in which she five runs (four earned) over six innings on seven hits with five strikeouts and two walks.
KEY MOMENTS FRIDAY'S GAME TWO:
- The Knights scored one run in the bottom of the first and added two unearned tallies in the fifth inning for all the scoring in the nightcap.
- CCSU was not credited with a base hit in game two, but the Blue Devils threatened to get on the scoreboard in the top of the seventh when Ashley Viesta led off the frame with a walk and Reagan Vunak reached on an error but could not push a run across the plate
- Alana Varga (5-9) was the hard-luck loser in game two for CSSU for the second straight game, as she pitched well firing a complete game in which she allowed only one earned run on only three hits with one strikeout.
