
Blue Devils Open Play At Yale Softball Classic With Losses To Sacred Heart And Host Bulldogs
CCSU Will Face The Same Two Squads On Saturday
It was a tough chilly Friday in the Elm City for the Central Connecticut State softball team, as the Blue Devils opened play in the 2025 Yale Softball Classic with a pair of 10-2 losses in six innings; first against Sacred Heart University, then against host Yale University. With the two defeats on Friday, CCSU is now 2-11 so far this season.

KEY MOMENTS FROM THE SACRED HEART GAME:
- Playing as the visitors in the first of five games over three days at Yale, CCSU got on the board first in the top of the second when a Skylar Warn double to centerfield scored Grace Lawton.
- SHU would take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second scoring a pair of runs, and the Pioneers would double their advantage with two more tallies in the fourth.
- Ashlyn Desaulniers stayed hot at the plate for Central when she cut her team's deficit to two at 4-2 with an RBI-double that plated pinch runner Abigail Mitchell in inning number five.
- The Pioneers would put up a four-spot in the fifth inning, and then end the game by run-rule with two more runs in the sixth.
- Sophia LoPiccolo went 2-for-3 in Friday's first game for the Blue Devils
- Alina Varga (1-5) pitched a complete game in game one for CCSU in the pitching circle and took the loss. Varga fanned six batters in her 5.1 innings of work.
KEY MOMENTS FROM THE YALE GAME:
- Again playing as the visitors, and as they did in Friday's opener, CCSU got off to a 1-0 lead versus the host Bulldogs, when Ashlyn Desaulniers blasted her second home run of 2025 in the top of the third inning.
- Yale quickly came back to grab a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the same frame, and the hosts upped their lead to 6-1 with two more runs in the bottom of fourth to make the score 6-1.
- CCSU tried to chip away at the lead in the top of the fifth when Reagan Vunak, who doubled, scored on a two-out Yale error to make the score 6-2.
- Yale would end the game by run-rule at 10-2 in the bottom of the sixth by scoring four runs.
- CCSU was limited to four hits in Friday's second game.
- Liz Hamilton (1-3) took the loss against Yale working a complete game in which she struck out four in 5.2 innings pitched.
