Track Competes in Two-Day Meet in Virginia
CCSU competes next Saturday at UConn in the Northeast Challenge.
The Central Connecticut men's outdoor track and field team competed in a two-day meet at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA. The 53rd Annual Colonial Relays included athletes from over 50 colleges and universities.
Freshman Elias Field set a new personal best in the men's 5,000 meter run beating his previous time of 15:31.84 with 15:27.39 for a 21st place finish.
Sophomores Miles Fye-Moore and Darius Wise ran in the 100 meter dash. Fye-Moore recorded a time of 11.09 seconds for 15th place, while Wise finished in 11.36 seconds. The duo also ran the 200 meter dash. They finished in 22.19 and 23.01 seconds respectively.
Three Blue Devils ran in the 400 meter dash. Freshman Jason Walton ran in 50.02 seconds, sophomore Hank Jean-Jacques 52.62, and junior Jack St. Clair crossed the finish line at 52.64 seconds. St. Clair later competed in the men's long jump recorded a height of 6.22 meters for 18th place.
In the 800 meter run, junior Julio Arredondo represented CCSU with a time of 1:57.88 and classmate Andrew Findley finished in 1:59.19. Arredondo also ran the 1,500 meter run finishing with a time of 4:04.76.
Freshman Cam Whalen ran the 110 meter hurdles in 16.04 seconds for a 15th place finish. Senior Matt Baum and freshman Laurenzo Thompkins competed in the 400 meter hurdles with times of 56.54 and 57.89 seconds respectively.
In the men's shot put, junior Nana Kissi and freshman Ed Radzion came in 19th and 20th place after throwing 12.85 and 12.69 meters. Kissi, along with freshman Andrew McCarthy competed in the javelin. Kissi came in fourth place after a throw of 49.24 meters. McCarthy threw 41.00 meters for 17th place.
In the triple jump, Tyrik Henry came in 13th place with a height of 13.21 meters. McCarthy threw the discus for CCSU 41.93 meters to coming in 12th place.
Senior Jeremy Hopwood came in fifth place in the pole vault with a height of 4.38. In the 4x400 relay, Central (St. Clair, Grudzwick, Walton, Findley, Baum) came in 16th place after finishing in 3:23.20.
The 1,600 sprint medely team (Henry, Whalen, Sanchez, Findley) came in 12th place with a time of 3:35.62.
The team competes next Saturday, April 13, in Storrs, CT at the UConn Northeast Challenge.
