Men's Track Wins Eight Events at Ramapo
Men's indoor track and field recorded eight first-place finishes and set seven personal bests.
The Central Connecticut men's indoor track and field team had an impressive showing at the Ramapo College Indoor Track and Field Season Opener on Friday. The team came in first place in eight events and recorded seven personal bests.
Sophomore Miles Fye-Moore and junior Evan Walker competed in the men's 60-meter dash. Fye-Moore won the event with a time of 7.16 and Walker finished fifth in 7.29.
Junior Qunicy Sanchez recorded a personal best in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.24 seconds earning him a fourth-place finish. Classmate Tyrik Henry came in seventh at 8.74 seconds.
Three athletes competed in the 200-meter dash. Rookie Garret Dandridge finished first in 22.36 seconds. Junior Andrew D'Ovidio and sophomore Trevor Glymph finished with times of 23.95 and 24.50 respectively.
Freshman Qasim Danazumi was the only Blue Devil to participate in the 400-meter dash and crossed the finish line in 51.86 finishing third.
In the 500-meter dash, freshman Jason Walton won the event finishing in 1:07.90 and junior Andrew D'Ovidio improved his time from the Wagner Invitational to 1:08.96 for a third-place finish.
For the second week in a row, junior Richard Grudzwick won the 800-meter dash, this week with a time of 1:56.52. Junior Andrew Findley improved from last week for a third-place finish at 1:59.14. Rookie Timothy McNamara set a personal record in the event with a time of 2:07.57.
Junior Julio Arredondo won the 1,000-meter dash crossing the line at 2:36.06 and in his first time competing in the event, freshman Andruw Flemming ran in 2:45.57 to finish in fourth-place.
In the 1-mile race, junior Roberto Piotto and Charlie Taubl finished in 4:23.98 and 4:39.03 respectively.
Junior Marquis Ward won the men's high jump with a leap of 1.98 meters. Ward also recorded a personal best in the triple jump at 14.36 meters for another first-place finish. Central took the top three spots in the event with junior Jared Creech coming in second (13.55 meters) and sophomore Trevor Glymph third (12.69 meters).
Three juniors competed in the long jump. Jack St. Clair recorded a jump of 6.40 meters, Even Walker 6.17, and Tyrik Henry 5.55 meters.
Senior Jeremy Hopwood was the only Blue Devil to participate in the pole vault earning a seventh-place finish with a height of 4.25 meters.
Central gave a good showing in the shot put with junior Nana Kissi recording a 13.60 meter throw for his first time in the event. Rookies Ed Radzion and Andrew McCarthy threw 12.19 and 10.76 meters respectively.
The same three Blue Devils competed in the weighted throw. Kissi threw 12.56 meters for a second-place finish, McCarthy 11.49 meters to finish fourth, and Radzion recording a personal best with 10.86 meters.
Central had three teams enter the 4x400 relay and they all finished in the top 10. The first-place team finished with a time of 3:23.09.
The Central Connecticut men's indoor track team travels to Boston next Friday for the Northeastern Collegiate Invitational.
