Grudzwick Named NEC Track Athlete of the Week
Richard Grudzwick was named the Northeast Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week.
Central Connecticut junior Richard Grudzwick was named the Northeast Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week, it was announced by the league office Wednesday afternoon.
Grudzwick put forth a memorable effort in the 800m run at Princeton's Larry Ellis Invitational, ascending to the top of the CCSU record book while taking a 1.50-second lead over his closet competition on the NEC leader board. The third-year Blue Devil crossed the line in 1:50.06 at Princeton, taking second place amongst collegiate finishers.
The time, which is nearly 4.0 full seconds under the automatic qualifying standard for the IC4A Championships, broke former teammate Joe Gioielli's program record (1:50.23). Buoyed by his latest performance, Grudzwick occupies the No. 36 ranking on the NCAA Division I East Region performance list.
The Central Connecticut track & field team hosts the CCSU Blue Devil Invite on Saturday, April 27 in New Britain, CT.
