Track and Field Record Seven Personal Bests in Boston
CCSU will next compete on Feb. 15-16 at the 2019 Northeast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship.
The men's indoor track and field team set seven personal bests at the David Hemery Invitational in Boston, MA.
Five personal bests came in the track events. Sophomore Darius Wise recorded a new best in the 60 meter dash finishing third out of 43 athletes in 7.13. Junior Evan Walker also competed and finished in 7.42.
Two Blue Devils set personal bests in the 200 meter dash. Wise recorded a new time of 22.30 and freshman Qasim Danazumi beat his previous record of 23.27 with a time of 22.74.
In the 500 meter dash with 63 runners, junior Andrew Findley ran a collegiate best time of 1.06.04 finishing in 29th place. Classmate Richard Grudzwick finished 13th, recording a time of 1:05.11.
Junior Julio Arredondo completed the 800 meter run in 1:57.13 to finish 139th out of a field of over 200 runners. Freshman Tim McNamara ran a personal best in the event with a time of 2:01.48.
Rookie Cam Whalen and junior Quincy Sanchez participated in the 60 meter hurdles. Whalen ran a personal best 8.74 in the prelims but did not qualify for the finals. Sanchez also did not advance to the finals.
In the one mile run, junior Roberto Piotto finished 139th out of 278 with a time of 4:20.54 and freshman Andruw Flemming completed the race in 4:51.14.
The 4x400 relay team consisting of Findley, Flemming, Grudzwick, and McNamara completed the event in 3:28.82.
Two personal bests came in the field events, both by freshman Ed Radzion. The rookie surpassed his previous 12.86 meter record in the shot put with a 13.39 meter throw. In the weighted throw, he recorded 11.57 meters, passing his previous 11.14 meters.
Freshman Andrew McCarthy also competed in the weighted throw recording 11.52 meters. McCarthy, along with Radizon, junior Nana Kissi, and sophomore J'Von Brown, competed in the shot put. McCarthy threw 11.96 meters, Brown 12.15, and Kissi 13.51 meters.
Senior Jeremy Hopwood finished 10th in pole vault recording a throw of 4.50 meters and sophomore Gordon Perrett threw 3.75 meters.
Junior Kevorni Welsh jumped 1.85 meters in the high jump. In the triple jump, Welsh leaped 13.96 meters and sophomore Trevor Glymph 12.50 meters.
Four Blue Devils competed in the long jump. Junior Jack St. Clair recorded 6.06 meters, Creech 6.03 meters, junior Evan Walker 5.96 meters, and Glymph posted 5.86 meters.
The men's indoor track and field team competes in the 2019 Indoor Track and Field Northeast Conference Championship at Wagner in Staten Island, NY on Feb. 15-16.
