Men's Outdoor Track & Field All-NEC Honors Announced
Kevorni Welsh was named the 2019 NEC Most Outstanding Performer for jumps.
The Central Connecticut men's outdoor track & field team collected All-Northeast Conference honors in nine events it was announced on Thursday afternoon by the league office. Junior Kevorni Welsh was one of the league's top performers being named Most Outstanding Performer (Jumps).
Welsh was named the Most Outstanding Field Performer (Jumps) after taking the gold in the long jump and high jump at the NEC Championships. Welsh jumped 7.11 meters to earn the gold in the long jump. He cleared 12.05 meters in the high jump for a first place finish. Joining Welsh on the All-NEC first team was senior Richard Grudzwick who won the 800 meter with a time of 1:52.10.
Five athletes were named to the All-NEC second team. Junior Akiel Smith earned a second place finish in the 100 meter dash at 10.65 seconds. Classmate Roberto Piotto earned the silver in both the 5,000m (14:44.71) and 10,000m (33:08.81). Junior Quincy Sanchez placed second in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 54.84 seconds. Junior Marquis Ward made the list after a 7.00 meter leap in the long jump and freshmen Andrew McCarthy was placed on the second team with a 46.35 meter discus throw.
McCarthy, along with three other freshmen were named to the All-Rookie Team. Garrett Dandridge ran the 100 meter in 10.94 seconds, Elias Field completed the 5,000 meter in 15:15.80, and Laurenzo Thompkins finished the 400 meter hurdles in 55.03 seconds.
