Men's Track & Field Earns 2019 NEC Runner-Up
Central was named the NEC runner-up with a total of 150 points.
For the second straight year, the Central Connecticut men's outdoor track and field team was named the 2019 Northeast Conference runner-up. The team totaled 150 points and took home 12 medals. Saint Francis U was crowned the NEC Champions totaling 192 points.
Junior Kevorni Welsh was named the Most Outstanding Performer (jumps) following the conclusion of the meet.
Junior Richard Grudzwick was named the 800 meter champion after an impressive time of 1:52.10.
Central took the silver and bronze in the 400 meter hurdles. Junior Quincy Sanchez (54.85) placed second and freshman Laurenzo Thompkins (55.03) came in third.
Junior Roberto Piotto (14:44.71) and senior Alex Norstrom (15:04.52) earned the silver and bronze in the 5,000 meter adding 14 points to the team score.
Freshman Andrew McCarthy earned eight points for the team and took the silver medal in the discus with a throw of 46.35 meters. Junior Akiel Smith won the silver in the 100 meter with a time of 10.65 seconds.
Four Blue Devils placed in the 110 meter hurdles adding 12 points total to the overal score. Junior Edwin Alston finished fourth (11.48), Sanchez fifth (14.52), Junior Tyrik Henry (14.90), and freshman Cam Whalen eighth (15.04).
Freshman Garrett Dandridge (10.94) and sophomore Miles-Fye Moore (10.96) combined for seven points in the 100 meter after fifth and sixth place finishes. Junior Julio Arredondo put two points on the board in the 1,500 meters after a seventh place finish at 4:02.31.
Junior Nana Kissi placed seventh in the men's javelin with a throw of 50.82 meters, earning two points for the Blue Devils. Senior Matt Baum added another four points with a fifth place finish in the 400 meter hurdles at 55.14 seconds.
Welsh placed sixth in the triple jump with a height of 14.21 meters adding three points to the team's overall score. Junior Marquise Ward place eighth (13.90m) in the event adding another point for Central.
