Grudzwick Sets New School Record at Larry Ellis Invitational, Saturday
Richard Grudzwick set a new outdoor 800 meter record with a time of 1:50.06.
The Central Connecticut men's track and field team competed at the Larry Eillis Invitational in Princeton, N.J. on Saturday. Junior Richard Grudzwick set a new school record for the 800 meter dash running a time of 1:50.06. The previous record of 1:50.23 was held by Joseph Gioielli. The Blue Devils set seven other collegiate bests at the meet.
Sophomores Miles Fye-Moore and Darius Wise set personal bests in the 100 meter dash with times of 10.84 and 10.94 seconds.
Junior Julio Arredondo and Quincy Sanchez recorded collegiate bests of their own. Arredondo surpassed his time of 4:02.04 with a 4:00.44 finish in the 1,500 meter run. Sanchez completed the 110 meter hurdles in 14.55 seconds earning the bronze medal in the finals.
Senior Matt Baum recorded a personal best in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 55.46 seconds earning a 12th place finish. The men's 4x100 relay team (Wise, Creech, Fye-Moore, and Dandridge) ran the best time of the season finishing in fourth place at 41.47 seconds.
The final personal record was set by rookie Andrew McCarthy in the discus throw at 47.68 meters.
Freshman Garret Dandridge and junior Jarred Creech competed in the 100 meter dash recording times of 10.97 and 11.27 seconds respectively.
Rookie Jason Walton finished the 400 meter dash in 50.12 seconds while junior Andrew Findley completed the 800 meter run in 1:54.82. During the first round of the 110 meter hurdles, junior Tyrik Henry came in 17th place at 15.25 seconds and freshman Cam Whalen crossed the finish line at 15.32 in 19th place.
Whalen also ran the 400 meter hurdles recording a time of 58.31 seconds. The men's 4x400 tea (Baum, Whalen, Grudzwick, and Findley) came in ninth place at 3:25.14.
In the men's long jump, junior Jack St. Clair came in 16th place with a height of 6.41 meters. Junior Kevorni Welsh earned an eighth place finish in the triple jump at 14.02 meters. In the men's shot put, junior Nana Kissi came in 13th place after a throw of 13.32 meters.
Members of the Central track and field team will compete in the Penn Relays on Thursday and Friday. Central then hosts the CCSU Blue Devil Invite on Saturday, April 27 in New Britain, CT.
