Radden Takes 1st and 3rd at Terrier Invite
The CCSU men's track and field team competed at the Boston University Terrier Invitational on Saturday.
The Central Connecticut men's track and field teams competed at the Boston University Terrier Classic on Saturday in Boston, MA. Senior Aaron Radden continued his impressive senior season taking first in the finals race of the 60m dash (6.86). The defending 200m dash NEC champion also placed third in the 200m (21.16) among a field of 195 competitors.
Following Radden in the 200m was classmate Dan Hopper who crossed the finish line in 22.53, setting a new collegiate personal-best record and placing 63rd. Hopper also demonstrated a strong performance for the Blue Devils in the 400m dash, breaking another of his collegiate personal bests with a time of 49.27 for 20th out of 146.
Close behind Hopper was senior Nick Lindblom who also set a new collegiate personal best with his time of 49.46 for 25th place.
A number of Blue Devil freshmen made their mark at Saturday's meet. Joseph Gioielli placed highest of all Central freshman taking sixth in the 800m out of 143 competitors. Gioielli's time of 1:52.61 was followed by senior Mike Waterbury who finished in 1:56.14 for 42nd place. Freshman Malcolm Connor also performed well, placing 18th of 85 in the 500m with a time of 1:05.18 followed by sophomore Joey Farrington (1:05.28, 22nd).
The CCSU 4x400m relay team garnered a 31st-place finish out of 54 teams and featured Gioielli, Connor, Farrington and Waterbury. The team crossed the finish line in 3:25.40.
Other key distance performances included senior John Krell, who placed 25th in the 5,000m run with a time of 14:58.27, and sophomore Andrew Hill who notched the 39th spot in the 3,000m run in 8:32.93.
From the field, the Blue Devils took 20th of 49 in the long jump, a feat earned by freshman John Sudol. Sudol cleared a distance of 6.21 meters. Also, junior Michael Ficorilli recorded 12.24 meters in the shot put for 37th place.

The Central squad takes to the track again in Kingston, RI to compete against the University of Rhode Island Rams on Saturday, February 2.
