Men's Track & Field Places Six in Top 10
Sophomore Jordan Watkins led the Blue Devils with a fifth-place finish in the 110 meter hurdles.
The Central Connecticut men's track and field team competed at the UMASS Pre-Conference Meet on Saturday in Amherst, MA. The Blue Devils also finished up competition at the Penn Relays, where they broke a CCSU record in the 4x800 meter relay.
The 4x800m relay team, consisting of senior Mike Waterbury, sophomore Brian Biekert and freshmen Malcolm Connor and Joseph Gioielli, crossed the finish line in 7:38.32 for 13th place out of 31 teams. Waterbury was on the previous record-holding team that set the record of 7:39.31 in 2011.
At UMASS, the Blue Devils were led by sophomore Jordan Watkins who placed fifth in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.31. Watkins also placed 10th in the 400 meter hurdles with his time of 57.47.
In the 400 meter dash, two Blue Devils earned personal collegiate best times. Sophomore Jamie Tobias placed sixth in the event, crossing the finish line in 50.76. He was followed by junior Chris Savvidou who finished eighth with a time of 51.25.
Also placing in the top ten for Central was freshman John Sudol. He took 10th in the long jump with a new personal best mark of 6.01m and third in the triple jump with a distance of 12.36m.
In the 1,500 meter run, a trio of freshman earned new personal best times. Derek French crossed the finish line in 4:07.31. He was followed by Tyler Raymond in 4:10.54 and Matt Walker in 4:13.17.
Other performances for the Blue Devils at UMASS include sophomore Joey Farrington, who ran the 800m in 1:59.79 and classmate Patrick Hubbell, who crossed the finish line in 2:00.88.
