Radden, Fruster All-NEC First Team
Aaron Radden and Jamal Fruster are among three other Blue Devils to be named All-Conference Tuesday.
Five members of the Central Connecticut men's track and field team were named to the 2013 Outdoor Men's All-Conference teams Tuesday after their performances at the Outdoor NEC Championships in May. Senior Aaron Radden, who was named NEC Most Outstanding Track Performer following NEC Championship competition, was awarded with both first and second team honors.
Sophomore Jamal Fruster joined Radden on the first team and classmate Andrew Hill was named to the second team. Two freshmen, Joseph Gioielli and Derek French, were named to the All-Rookie team following their successful inaugural collegiate campaigns.
2013 OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD ALL-CONFERENCE
Radden claims the honors after taking the gold in the 100m with his time of 10.66 seconds and the silver in the 200m, crossing the finish line in 21.69 seconds. He completes his successful career as a five-time indoor NEC Individual Champion, a four-time outdoor NEC Individual Champion, a four-time New England Indoor Champion and a two-time NEC Indoor Championship Most Outstanding Performer and Most Valuable Performer. Radden has also tallied eight NEC weekly awards among his multitude of accolades. His 2013 NEC Most Outstanding Track Performer award is the first Radden has received for outdoor competition in his career.
Fruster earns his spot on the All-Conference First Team after claiming the gold in the 400m with his time of 48.29 at the Outdoor NEC Championships. The sophomore finished almost 30 seconds faster than his closest opponent and qualified for IC4A competition with his performance.
Hill was named to the All-Conference Second Team for his second-place performance in the 10,000m run. The distance runner completed the race in 32:13.55 for a new personal best time. Hill also competed in the 5,000m run in which he placed fourth.
Gioielli, who was named NEC Rookie of the Week on April 23, earned a spot on the All-Rookie Team after earning the bronze in the 800m run at the NEC Championships. He crossed the finish line with a time of 1:54.69. Gioielli also earned All-Rookie honors during the 2013 indoor track and field season in addition to an NEC Rookie of the Week nod on January 29.
French capped off his freshman campaign with his All-Rookie award after finishing the 10,000 meter run in 32:52.44. He finished ninth and was the fastest freshman in the 19-runner field.
