Radden Wins Two Events at UMASS
The Blue Devils placed third out of 14 teams at the UMASS Minutemen Invitational Saturday.
The Central Connecticut men's track and field team placed third in a field of 14 teams at the UMASS Minutemen Invitational on Saturday. The Blue Devils earned 10 top-five finishes, including six gold medals, on the day. Senior Aaron Radden led the team with two gold medals.
The Blue Devils also took a select few student-athletes to the Bison Outdoor Classic in Lewisburg, PA. Sophomore Brian Biekert took eighth place in his section of the 1,500 meter run and qualified for IC4A competition with his time of 3:48.68. At UMASS, Radden took the top spot in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.84 and in the 200 meter dash, crossing the finish line in 21.44. He was followed in the 200m by sophomore Jamal Fruster, who finished in 22.79 for 11th, and freshman Matt Walker, who came in 16th with a time of 22.91.
Fruster earned a gold medal for Central in the 400 meter dash. He crossed the finish line in 48.52 seconds to claim the victory. He also helped earn the gold in the 4x400 meter relay. The team, consisting of Fruster, senior Nick Lindblom, junior Ryan Budd and freshman Malcolm Connor, crossed the finish line in 3:17.75.
Malcolm also earned eighth for his individual effort in the 800 meter run. He crossed the finish line in 1:55.17.
In addition to his team win, Lindblom also emerged victorious in the 400 meter hurdle event. He finished in 53.95 and was followed by Budd in fourth (55.23) and sophomore Jordan Watkins in ninth (57.53).
Watkins and Lindblom finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 100 meter hurdles. Watkins crossed the finish line in 15.10 for a new collegiate personal-best time. He was followed by Lindblom who finished in 15.31 seconds.
Also accomplishing a top-five performance was senior John Krell who came in fifth in the 5,000 meter run with his time of 15:07.00.
The Blue Devils enjoyed a successful outing in the field events as senior Rashad Williams took first in the shot put. He registered a distance of 16.48 meters in the event. He also competed in the discus throw where he threw for 37.93 meters for 11th place.
Sophomore Jamie Tobias tied for sixth in the high jump, clearing 1.86 meters and freshman John Sudol took 14th in the long jump, registering a distance of 5.99 meters.
The Blue Devils return to action on Friday, April 19th, at Princeton in Princeton, NJ.
