Gioielli Earns Track Rookie Honor
Freshman Joseph Gioielli earn NEC Track Rookie of the Week honors on Tuesday.
Central Connecticut freshman Joseph Gioielli earned Northeast Conference Track Rookie of the Week Honors on Tuesday evening. The announcement was made in the conference's weekly indoor track and field release. Gioielli's first collegiate attempt at the 800m run yielded the second-best time in the Northeast Conference this season.
Producing a prime performance under the bright lights of the Boston University Terrier Classic, Gioielli clocked in at 1:52.61. The time placed him sixth out of 143 finishers at BU.
Among NEC runners, only Monmouth veteran Ford Palmer owns a faster time this season.
A welcome addition to Central Connecticut's already-strong distance department, Gioielli became the first Blue Devil this season to automatically qualify for the IC4A Championships in the 800m run.
Gioielli and the Blue Devils will be back in action this weekend at the University of Rhode Island. The meet will be CCSU's final tune-up prior to the Northeast Conference Championships.
