Men's Track Opens 2013 Season at Army
CCSU secures six top-five performances.
The Central Connecticut men's track and field team turned in an impressive performance at the Army Crowell Open on Saturday in West Point, NY. The Blue Devils turned in six performances in the top five, led by senior Aaron Radden who placed first in the 60 meter dash (6.86) over 58 competitors.
Sophomore Joey Farrington also performed well in his first collegiate attempt at the 1,000 meter run, taking second place in the race with a time of 2:37.12. He was followed closely by freshman Malcolm Connor who finished third in 2:37.51.
Central earned a pair of third-place finishes in freshmen Joseph Gioielli and Jamie Tobias. Gioielli finished the one mile run with a time of 4:20.81 for third in a field of 37 and Tobias cleared 1.94 meters in the high jump to kick off his collegiate career.
In addition to the Blue Devils' individual success, the men's 4x400 meter relay team earned a fourth-place finish. The seasoned team, made up seniors Nick Lindblom, Radden and Dan Hopper as well as sophomore Jamal Fruster, completed the race in 3:27.90.
Freshman John Sudol, another Central newcomer, placed seventh in a field of 30 in the long jump (6.17 meters) in his first collegiate meet following up a national qualifying high school run.
CCSU garnered ten top-10 finishes at the Army Crowell Open, which consisted of almost 20 schools and hundreds of entrants. Overall, the Blue Devils placed in the top 15 in 12 out of 13 events.
