KEY MOMENTS
- Sacred Heart jumped out to a four-run lead in the first three innings. Justin Jordan drove in the first two runs of the game – on a single in the first and a triple in the third. A sac fly from Zach Kovalchik and a RBI-groundout by Tyler Galletti in third would push the Pioneers' lead to 4-0.
- The Blue Devils would bounce back with a five-run frame in the bottom of the third. Elliot Good led off with a single and moved to second on a wild pitch before scoring on a hit by Brady Short. A single through the middle by Hunter Pasqualini would drive in Short. Following a walk to Ramon Jimenez, Derek Haughey and Rogers would connect for RBI-hits to tie the game at 4-4. Mike Torniero would follow with a run-scoring groundout to put CCSU ahead 5-4.
- Wainwright, who entered the game with a runner on and no outs in the third, would only allow two base runners in the fourth through seventh innings. After surrendering a walk and giving up a double in the third he didn't allow another hit until there were two outs in the sixth inning.
- CCSU added insurance runs in the seventh after putting runners on the corners with two outs. Rogers would deliver a three-run homer over the fence in right to make it 8-4.
NOTES
- The Blue Devils have won seven straight against the Pioneers and are 57-42 in the series.
- Wainwright finished with 5.0 innings pitched and allowed one run on two hits. He struck out two and walked one.
- Rogers went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, including a pair of extra-base hits.
- Haughey was 1-for-3 with a pair of runs scored.
