Baseball Rallies by UMES on Saturday
The Central Connecticut baseball team pulled away from Maryland Eastern Shore for a 7-2 win on Saturday in Salisbury, MD. The Blue Devils got their second Northeast Conference win by scoring two runs in the fifth, three in the seventh and another in the ninth to rally from a one-run deficit.

KEY MOMENTS
- The game's scoring opened in the fourth inning. Joe Rios singled with two outs and advanced following a balk. He would come around to score on a single by Ramon Jimenez to make it 1-0. The Shore Hawks came back in the bottom of the inning with two runs. After the leadoff batter reached on an error, Brantley Cutler hit a homerun to give UMES a 2-1 lead.
- Central came right back to regain the lead with two runs in the top of the fifth. Dan Hussey was hit by a pitch and Jimmy Sullivan singled to put runners on first and second. A sacrifice bunt put two runners in scoring position for Brady short who singled to right center and drove in two runs to make it 3-2.
- Sullivan led off the seventh with a walk and moved to third base after Elliot Good reached on an error on an attempted sacrifice. Short followed with a double to drive in two more runs and extend the lead to 5-2. Short would steal third and score on a fielder's choice by Joe Rios to make it 6-2.
- The Blue Devils added a run in the ninth after two runners reached via walks. With two outs, Hussey doubled to drive in Rios and make it 7-2.
NOTES
- UMES joined the NEC as an associate member ahead of the 2023 season. The Blue Devils have gone 3-0-1 in four meetings against the Shore Hawks since 2004.
- The Blue Devils got a strong outing from Anthony Mozzicato who went 7.0 innings and got his second win of the season. Mozzicato scattered six hits and recorded strikeouts, while allowing just one walk.
- Vincent Spizzoucco allowed just one hit in 2.0 innings of work out of the bullpen.
- Short went 2-for-3 with four RBIs and a run scored.
- Jimenez and Rios each went 2-for-4 with an RBI at the plate, while Rios added two runs scored..
