KEY MOMENTS
- The game was a pitchers' duel through the first three innings. The Blue Devils would open the scoring in the fourth inning. Danny Rogers led off with a walk and moved to third on a single by Jimmy Sullivan. Jeff Nicol would loft a sacrifice fly to left field that plated Rogers to make it 1-0.
- CCSU would break the game open with five runs in the fifth inning. The Blue Devils would load the bases with nobody out and Rogers delivered a single through the middle to plate two runs. A wild pitch would move runners to second and third. Sullivan followed with a single to clear the bases to make it 5-0, and he moved to second on the throw. Nicol became the fifth straight Blue Devil to reach safely when he singled home a run to make it 6-0.
- Delaware State managed just one hit on CCSU starter Jake Neuman through the first four innings, but would get to him in the fifth. After the first two hitters would be retired, Jancarlos Colon worked a walk before Trey Paige followed with a homerun and make it 6-2.
- The Blue Devils added a run on an Elliot Good single in the sixth and three more runs in the ninth. Hunter Pasqualini scored on a wild pitch and Mike Torniero delivered a two-run pinch hit to make it 10-2.
- The Hornets got an RBI-single by Nick Gnardellis and a two-run double by Evan Bouldin in the ninth to close out the scoring.
NOTES
- Delaware State joined the NEC as an associate member ahead of the 2023 season.
- CCSU is 6-0 to begin NEC play for the first time. Its previous best start was going 4-0, last in 2013.
- Neuman allowed two runs on six hits in his 8.0 innings of work. He struck out seven and worked around four walks.
- Sullivan and Nicol were each 2-for-4 with two RBIs at the plate. Sullivan added a run scored.
- Rogers also drove in two runs and scored two runs, while going 1-for-4.
- Torniero drove in his first two runs of the season.
- Ramon Jimenez drew four walks and scored three runs.
- Pasqualini drew four walks and went 1-for-2 with two runs and two stolen bases.
- Joe Rios had two hits and two runs scored. He was 5-for-14 (.457) with 5 RBIs in the series.
