Niman Earns NEC Baseball Pitcher of the Week; Short Named Prime Performer

Central Connecticut lefthander Dominic Niman was named Northeast Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week it was announced Tuesday. Niman was joined on the list of Prime Performers by infielder Brady Short.
In his first NEC start of the season, Niman tossed 7.0 innings, allowing just one run on four hits with 11 strikeouts and a walk. He allowed just one Shore Hawk runner past second base in the first five innings. In his two starts this season he has 18 strikeouts and just two walks in 12.2 innings.

Short enjoyed a strong week, hitting .385 (5-for-13) last week with a team-high eight RBIs. He had three runs scored with a double and homerun and posted a .471 on-base percentage and .692 slugging percentage. Short hit a two-run homerun in midweek game against UAlbany. He went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run in a 10-2 win at UMES on Friday and then 2-for-4 with a run and four RBIs in 7-2 win on Saturday. In Saturday's win he singled home two runs in the fifth inning to give CCSU a 3-2 lead and then doubled home two runs in the seventh. He finished the week with a single in Sunday's extra-inning win to complete the series sweep.
