Volleyball Drops 3-1 Decision to St. John's in Opener
Blue Devils playing Colgate at 7 p.m. tonight
The Central Connecticut volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to St. John's in its 2013 season-opener on Friday afternoon. The match was the first of the weekend for the Blue Devils at the Colgate Classic.
The Blue Devils will face the host team at 7 p.m. on Friday night.
St. John's won the first two sets, 25-12 and 25-23, before the Blue Devils bounced back to win a close third set, 25-23. The Red Storm won the fourth set 25-19 to claim the victory.
The Blue Devils were led by sophomore Heather Trueman who had a team-high 14 kills to go along with five digs. Freshman Cassidy Stankowski had 12 kills and 12 digs in her first career match for the Blue Devils.
Sophomore Makenna Lommori, last year's Northeast Conference Rookie of the Year and a First-Team All-Conference selection, had 29 assists to open her second year in New Britain.
Senior Veronika Ban had six blocks and six block assists in the match. Junior Brittany Schumacher had 10 digs to lead the defense.
The Blue Devils are in action again at 7 p.m. vs. Colgate.
