Volleyball Sweeps Bryant
The Central Connecticut volleyball team swept Bryant on Saturday evening.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team earned a three set victory over Bryant on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Devils (14-7, 5-2 NEC) were led by sophomore Heather Trueman's nine kills. CCSU won the three sets 25-10, 25-22 and 25-13. The victory over the Bulldogs (7-18, 3-4 NEC) gives CCSU a five match winning streak.
The Blue Devils started the first set slowly, but CCSU closed out the game with an impressive 14-point run. Sophomore Ashley Lenington set Trueman for a kill to give CCSU a 12-10 to lead. Lenington then served the final 13 points for CCSU, including a pair of aces.
After a close second set (25-22), the Blue Devils opened the third set with a 7-1 run and then rolled to a 25-13 victory.
Trueman led CCSU with nine kills. Senior Veronika Ban (8), freshman Cassidy Stankowski (8), junior Rachel Dunlap (6), freshman Brooke Schwab (4) and Lenington (2) all recorded multiple kills.
Freshman Rachel Fish led the CCSU defense with 15 digs. Stankowski (7), Ban (7), junior Brittany Schumacher (4), Schwab (3), Trueman (2) and Lenington (1) all contributed on defense.
At the net, Dunlap led CCSU's blockers with six block assists. Ban (3), Trueman (2) and Lenington (1) also contributed to the Blue Devils' blockers.
Lenington led the Blue Devils with 33 assists.
Dunalp's six kills came on eight attacks for an excellent .750 hitting percentage.
As a team CCSU hit .311 with just nine attack errors over the three sets.
The Blue Devils will return to action next weekend at Saint Francis U and Robert Morris.
