Schwab Earns Two Molten/NEC Weekly Awards
Freshman Brooke Schwab had an excellent week as CCSU won a pair of NEC matches.
Central Connecticut freshman volleyball player Brooke Schwab was named Molten/Northeast Conference Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week on Monday afternoon. Schwab helped CCSU earn a sweep of NEC foes Fairleigh Dickinson and Sacred Heart over the weekend. The Blue Devils swept FDU and then captured a four set victory over SHU to even their NEC record at 2-2.
Schwab was exceptional for CCSU on offense and defense in both matches. The middle blocker posted 15 total blocks and hit .455 with 10 kills on 22 total attacks and no attack errors. Schwab averaged a huge 2.14 blocks and 1.43 kills per set for the weekend.
Against FDU, Schwab posted five kills on an errorless nine attacks and a .556 hitting percentage. Defensively, she had eight block assists and just one block error in the match.
On Sunday, in another flawless performance, Schwab helped CCSU to a victory against Sacred Heart with five kills and a .385 hitting percentage. At the net she contributed to seven blocks. She also had a dig and a service ace in the match.
This is the second time this season that Schwab has earned defensive player of the week honors. She also received the award on September 3. It is also her second rookie of the week award with her first coming on Sept. 9.
Schwab and the Blue Devils will host Robert Morris and Saint Francis U this weekend at Detrick Gym. Both matches will begin at 1 p.m. and are available live on NECFrontRow.com.
