Volleyball Wins Seventh Straight Match
CCSU earned a 3-1 win over Robert Morris to secure its seventh straight NEC victory.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team defeated Robert Morris in four sets on Sunday afternoon. The victory gives CCSU a seven match winning streak and the Blue Devils (16-7, 7-2 NEC) have now won 14 of their last 16 contests. Robert Morris falls to 6-19 overall and 5-4 in Northeast Conference action.
The seven match winning streak is the second this season for CCSU. Prior to this season, the Blue Devils last seven match winning streak came in 2007.
The Blue Devils dropped the first set 25-12, but won the second (25-23), third (25-20) and fourth (26-24) sets to take the match.
Freshman Cassidy Stankowski led the Blue Devils with 14 kills and 21 digs. She also contributed to three blocks in the match.
Joining Stankowski in double-digit kills were sophomore Heather Trueman with 12 and freshman Brooke Schwab with 11.
Junior Rachel Dunlap (5), senior Veronika Ban (4) and sophomore Makenna Lommori (3) also contributed kills. Lommori set for the CCSU hitters and recorded 44 assists.
Defensively, the Blue Devils totaled 12.0 blocks in the match led by Schwab who recorded a solo block and five block assists. Dunlap posted five block assists and Ban had a solo block and contributed to three others. Trueman (3), Stankowski (3) and Lommori (1) also contributed to blocks in the match.
Freshman Rachel Fish (16), senior Amalia Ashley (8), Lommori (6), Ban (5), junior Brittany Schumacher (4), sophomore Ashley Lenington (4) and Trueman (1) all recorded digs in the match.
Lenington (3) and Fish (2) each posted multiple service aces in the match.
The Blue Devils return to action on Saturday at Detrick Gym against Bryant. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and is available on NECFrontRow.com.
