Volleyball Sweeps SFBK to Reach 20 Wins
The Central Connecticut volleyball team won its 20th match of the season on Sunday.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team earned its 20th win of the season on Sunday with a 3-0 victory over St. Francis Brooklyn. The Blue Devils (20-8, 11-3 NEC) won 25-20, 25-23, 25-21 to sweep the match from the Terriers (7-25, 3-11 NEC).
The Blue Devils opened the match with a 25-20 victory in the first set behind five kills apiece from sophomore Heather Trueman and freshman Cassidy Stankowski. Sophomore Makenna Lommori recorded the assist on 12 of CCSU's 15 kills in the set.
Stankowski and Trueman were at it again in the second set. Stankowski posted six kills and Trueman five. Trueman's five kills came on just six attacks. The Blue Devils also had two blocks in the set with freshman Nicole Dean recording a solo block and chipping in on a block with senior Veronika Ban.
CCSU closed out the match with a 25-23 victory in the third said. Dean again contributed to a pair of blocks on the defensive end. Trueman led the squad with five kills, while Lommori, freshman Brooke Schwab, Stankowski and Ban each had three kills.
Lommori finished the match with 33 assists, five kills and three digs.
Trueman posted 15 kills on 23 attacks with out an error to record an exceptional .652 hitting percentage.
Stankowski finished with 14 kills on a .281 hitting percentage.
Freshman Rachel Fish posted a match-high 11 digs.
As a team, CCSU hit .340 for the match, while the Terriers posted a .170 mark.
The Blue Devils will play Saturday at 5:30 in the Northeast Conference Tournament. The opponent is to be determined.
