Volleyball Earns First Victory with Sweep of Binghamton
The Central Connecticut volleyball team wrapped up the first weekend of the season with a victory.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team earned its first victory of 2013 with a three-set sweep of Binghamton on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Devils are now 1-2 on the season.
The Blue Devils won the first set 25-18, the second 25-23 and dominated the third set 25-12 to claim the victory. In the third set Central hit an amazing .643 with 18 kills and no errors. For the match the Blue Devils hit .367 with 42 kills and just 10 errors.
Six Blue Devils recorded six or more kills in the match, led by freshman Brooke Schwab who had a match-high nine kills. Senior Veronika Ban, freshman Nicole Dean and sophomore Makenna Lommori each added seven kills while Cassidy Stankowski and Rachel Dunlap each had six.
Schwab's nine kills came with just error in the match. She also had two solo blocks and five block assists. She hit .667 in the win.
Lommori paced the offense with 34 assists in the match, while adding two digs and a pair of block assists. Junior Brittany Schumacher had 12 digs to lead the defense.
The match was the final one of the weekend for the Blue Devils in the Colgate Classic. They finished 1-2. Next weekend they head to Sacramento State for a weekend tournament with Sacramento State, San Jose State and Cal Poly.
