Volleyball Sweeps Hartford, 3-0
The Central Connecticut volleyball team earned a three set victory over Hartford on Friday afternoon.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team earned a three set victory over Hartford on Friday afternoon at Detrick Gym. The Blue Devils (6-5) topped the Hawks (3-10) by set scores of 25-23, 25-21 and 25-18.
The Blue Devils earned a 25-23 victory in a tightly contested first set behind five kills from sophomore Heather Trueman. Sophomore Makenna Lommori posted nine assists to boost the offense. On defense, the Blue Devils totaled three blocks with Trueman's two block assists leading the way.
In the second, CCSU posted five blocks with freshman Brooke Schwab's three block assists leading the group. Freshman Cassidy Stankowski also registered three total blocks in the set, including CCSU's only solo block.
CCSU's biggest margin of victory came in the third set, 25-18. The Blue Devils were again strong at the net with five blocks. This time it was senior Rachel Dunlap leading the way with for block assists.
Trueman finished with 12 kills to lead CCSU. Stankowski (9), senior Veronika Ban (6) and Dunlap (6) also had strong matches. Lommori finished with 30 assists in the match.
On defense, Dunlap contributed to six blocks. Schwab totaled five blocks, including a solo, and Stankowski posted four, while also making a solo block.
Eight CCSU players recorded a dig, but none reached double-digits. Senior Amalia Ashley playing libero had a team-high 8 digs.
The Blue Devils will return to action at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow in a match against NJIT. CCSU will conclude the tournament at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow night.
