Volleyball Trio Earn Molten/NEC Weekly Awards
Junior Rachel Dunlap, sophomore Makenna Lommori and freshman Cassidy Stankowski earned the honors from the NEC.
Senior Rachel Dunlap, sophomore Makenna Lommori and freshman Cassidy Stankowski earned Molten/Northeast Conference weekly awards for their performance last week. Lommori has been named Molten/NEC Co-Player of the Week, Dunlap earned defensive player of the week and Stankowski was named rookie of the week.
The trio made major contributions to CCSU winning the CCSU Blue Devil Invitational over the weekend.
Lommori helped her team to a 3-0 record and tournament championship at the CCSU Blue Devil Invitational, beating Hartford (3-0), NJIT (3-1) and Fordham (3-2) in the process. She earned tournament most valuable player honors for posting 121 assists, 13 digs, 11 blocks and seven services aces.
She dished out 10.08 assists per set, besting her season average of 9.52, while setting up attackers who hit .303 on the weekend. Lommori turned in a four-set season-high 47 assists, five kills and five blocks against NJIT on Saturday.
Dunlap led the CCSU defense at the net with 19 blocks over the tournament's three matches. She opened the weekend by posting six block assists in Blue Devils' sweep over Hartford on Friday. On Saturday, Dunlap matched the feat in a four set victory over NJIT. With an unblemished record, the Blue Devils took on Fordham in a Saturday nightcap and Dunlap didn't disappoint with seven blocks in a thrilling five set victory. For the weekend, Dunlap averaged 1.58 blocks per set.
Stankowski makes it back-to-back NEC Rookie of the Week honors after connecting for 36 kills and 26 digs across three wins last weekend. Stankowski averaged 3.27 kills and 2.36 digs per set, while hitting .195 in the three matches.
She had her best performance against NJIT hitting .229, notching her fifth double-double with 17 kills and 13 digs. In the final match of the weekend, Stankowski collected 10 kills and 11 digs against Fordham.
The Blue Devils will play their final non-conference match of the season on Wednesday at Holy Cross.
