Volleyball Drops Four Set Match at LIU
The Central Connecticut volleyball team fell to LIU Brooklyn in Four Sets on Sunday.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team fell to LIU Brooklyn in four sets on Sunday afternoon. The Blue Devils (9-7, 0-2 NEC) won the first set, but fell in the next three to drop the match to the Blackbirds (9-6, 2-0 NEC).
The Blue Devils capitalized on 13 kills and a .259 hitting percentage to win the first set 25-22. CCSU also posted 4.0 blocks as a team with freshman Brooke Schwab contributing to all four. Senior Veronika Ban was also strong at the net with a pair of block assists.
The Blackbirds took the second set after jumping out to an early lead. LIU won the second (25-16), third (25-18) and the fourth (25-16) sets to take the match.
The Blue Devils were led by Ban and freshman Cassidy Stankowski on offense. Stankowski finished with 12 kills and Ban with 11. Sophomore Makenna Lommori posted 34 assists in the match to set-up the CCSU hitters.
Defensively, CCSU totaled 11.0 blocks in the match. Schwab led the way with six block assists. Lommori and junior Rachel Dunlap each contributed to four blocks in the match. Freshman Rachel Fish (12), Stankowski (10) and Lommori (10) all posted double-digit digs in the contest.
The Blue Devils return to action next Saturday against Fairliegh Dickinson. CCSU will host the Knights at 4:30 at Detrick Gym.
