Volleyball Tops Saint Francis U, 3-1
The Central Connecticut volleyball team earned a four set victory over Saint Francis on Sunday.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team earned a four set victory over Saint Francis U on Sunday. The Blue Devils (13-7, 4-2 NEC) dropped the opening set to the Red Flash (2-17, 2-4 NEC), but rebounded and dominated the final three sets of the match.
CCSU won the second (25-16), third (25-10) and fourth sets (25-11) after dropping the opening set (25-23.) The Blue Devils played exceptionally at the net in the second, third and fourth sets and finished with 15 blocks as a team.
Junior Rachel Dunlap posted nine block assists to lead the squad. Senior Veronika Ban, often teaming with Dunlap, contributed to six blocks. Freshmen Cassidy Stankowski and Brooke Schwab each recorded a solo block and three block assists.
On offense, sophomore Makenna Lommori posted 34 assists to lead the team. Ban recorded 12 kills on 21 total attacks, with two errors, for a .476 hitting percentage. Dunlap was also strong on offense with eight kills on 15 attacks for a .533 hitting mark.
Stankowski (9), Trueman (8), Lommori (6) and Schwab (5) also finished the match with multiple kills.
Freshman libero Rachel Fish posted a team-high 10 digs. Stankowski (9), Lommori (8) and junior Brittany Schumacher (5) also had strong defensive games.
The victory gives the Blue Devils a four match winning streak and CCSU is now 7-0 at home this season.
As a team, CCSU hit .316 for the match with an incredible .462 mark in the second set.
The Blue Devils next match is on Saturday, Oct. 19, at Bryant.
