Volleyball Sweeps SFU, Winning Streak at Six
The Central Connecticut volleyball team won its sixth straight NEC match on Saturday.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team improved to 15-7 on the season and 6-2 in Northeast Conference play with a three set victory over Saint Francis U on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Devils swept the Red Flash (3-19, 3-6 NEC) to earn their sixth consecutive victory. The Blue Devils have now won 13 of their last 15 matches.
The Blue Devils trailed the Red Flash in the first set, but posted a 7-1 closing run to win the set 26-24. CCSU controlled the action throughout most of a 25-13 second set victory. The Blue Devils closed out the sweep with a 25-20 victory in the third set.
Freshmen Cassidy Stankowski and Brooke Schwab led the team with eight kill performances. While junior Rachel Dunlap and sophomore Heather Trueman each posted seven kills in the match.
Schwab's .538 hitting percentage was the high mark for CCSU on the day.
Schwab, Dunlap and senior Veronilka Ban led the CCSU defense, all three players posted three block assists in the match.
Freshman libero Rachel Fish led CCSU with 11 digs. She was the only Blue Devil in double-digits.
Sophomore Makenna Lommori contributed 32 assists and nine digs.
The Blue Devils have won six straight matches and can match their season-long winning streak of seven with a victory tomorrow at Robert Morris.
