Volleyball Falls to LIU Brooklyn in Three
The Blue Devils host Saint Francis Brooklyn on Sunday, Nov. 17 for senior day.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team fell to the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds on Saturday in three sets by scores of 25-22, 25-11 and 25-17. CCSU was led by sophomore Heather Trueman who posted 11 kills on the day. The Blue Devils will return to action tomorrow, Sunday, Nov. 17, when they host Saint Francis Brooklyn for senior day.
The Blue Devils' record falls to 19-8 overall with the loss, 10-3 in the NEC, and snaps CCSU's 10-win streak.
Central overcame an early five point deficit in the first set to tie the match 10-10 on a service ace by sophomore Ashley Lenington. The two squads traded points, tying the match again at 19 until the Blackbirds pulled away to claim a narrow three-point victory in the first set.
The Blue Devils battled in the second and third but ultimately lost 25-11 and 25-17 to allow the Blackbirds to remain undefeated in NEC action.
Trueman led the team in kills and was followed by freshman Brooke Schwab who posted seven. Freshman Cassidy Stankowski and junior Rachel Dunlap each added four to the team's 27 total.
Dunlap led the squad in block assists with five and sophomore Makenna Lommori tallied two block assists and one solo block.
Defensively, Lommori and freshman Rachel Fish each tallied five digs followed by Stankowski who posted four.
LIU's Annika Foit totaled 18 kills, leading both squads in the match.
The Blue Devils will return to action tomorrow, Nov. 17, for senior day when they host Saint Francis Brooklyn in Detrick Gymnasium at 1 p.m. Fans can watch all the action live at www.NECFrontRow.com.
