Volleyball Tops Manhattan 3-1
Heather Trueman and Veronika Ban led the Blue Devils with 14 kills each.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team (5-5) clinched its second win of the day against Manhattan (5-6) in the conclusion of the Big Green Invitational Saturday evening, taking the match 3-1. The Blue Devils claimed the first set 25-20 and dropped the second 29-27 before finishing strong, taking the last two 25-20 and 25-15. Senior Veronika Ban and sophomore Heather Trueman led Central with 14 kills each.
Trueman led the offense with 44 total attacks, followed by Ban who posted 33. The pair was followed closely by freshman Cassidy Stankowski who notched 13 kills on the day in 37 total attacks.
On defense, Trueman also led the team in digs with 16, closely followed by classmate Makenna Lommori who racked up 14 digs as well as 43 assists and eight kills for a team-high .444 kill percentage.
At the net, Ban and junior Rachel Dunlap led the squad in blocks, each posting seven assisted blocks in the match.
Following Saturday's final match, Ban and senior Amalia Ashley were named to the Big Green Invitational All-Tournament Team.
The Blue Devils return to action on Friday, Sept. 20 for their home-opening Blue Devil Invitational in which they will host Hartford, the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) and Fordham at Detrick Gymnasium in New Britain, CT.
