Volleyball Sweeps SPC
The Central Connecticut volleyball team swept the St. Peter's College Peahens in the opening match of the CCSU Blue Devil Invitational.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team swept the St. Peter's College Peahens in the opening match of the CCSU Blue Devil Invitational. The victory improves the Blue Devils to 3-4 on the season. Junior Emily Cochran had 15 kills in the match.
Central took the early lead with the victory in set one. The Blue Devils took the set 25-8. Cochran landed four kills in the set and junior Blaike King was three-of-five on the attack and hit .400 in the set.
In the second set, the Peahens climbed closer but the Blue Devilsprevield 25-10. King and junior Jennifer Waddill each posted strong service runs to help Central expand its lead.
The Blue Devils captured the final set 25-12. The Peahen's made a late run cutting the lead to 21-12, but Waddill went on another service run to finish out the match.
Throughout the match the Blue Devils dominated the net. As senior Sara DeLacey, senior Danielle Gasser, junior Jamie Rademacher and Waddill teamed up for a total of four blocks. Gasser also posted a match-high 29 assists.
The Blue Devils will return to action tomorrow for a pair of matches that will complete the CCSU Blue Devil Invitational. The Blue Devils will play Bucknell at 1 p.m. and Stony Brook at 3:30 p.m.
