CCSU Tops Hartford in Five
Emily Cochran leads CCSU with 23 kills
Junior Emily Cochran had a match-high 23 kills as the Central Connecticut volleyball team improved to 15-9 overall with a 3-2 victory at home over Hartford on Wednesday.
With the win the Blue Devils improve to 9-2 at home this season.
Central won the first two sets, 25-19 and 29-27, before the Hawks rebounded in game three. They won games three and four, 25-15 and 25-19, to force the fifth and deciding set. The Blue Devils used nine kills in the final set to win 15-9, and earn the victory.
Cochran's 23 kills led all players, she hit .195 for the match and also added a team-high 17 digs to lead the defense. Junior Jennifer Waddill had nine kills and hit .300, while juniors Blaike King and Jamie Rademacher each added seven.
Senior setter Danielle Gasser had 47 assists in the match, while adding 13 digs and four kills. Waddill helped pace a defense that had nine blocks. She added one block solo and seven block assists, while senior Sara Delacey had six kills and four block assists.
Hartford was led by Jackie Tamburri who had a match-high 57 assists and 20 digs. Four players had at least 12 kills, led by Kami Nethersole's 19.
Hartford falls to 11-14 with the loss.
Central is in action this weekend on the road at Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday and at Quinnipiac on Sunday in Northeast Conference action.
