Volleyball Falls at SHU
Junior Blaike King had a team-high 16 kills in the match.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team was defeated in four sets by Sacred Heart on Saturday evening. The Blue Devils dropped sets 25-14, 25-18 and 25-14, while capturing the third set by a score of 25-17. The Blue Devils are now 14-8 on the season and 6-3 in Northeast Conference action. Junior Blaike King finished with 16 kills in the match.
In the third set the Blue Devils built a 12-5 lead with junior Emily Cochran, freshman Emma Le Maitre and King all registering two kills during the run. King followed that by helping the Blue Devils on a 7-1 run later in the set. During that stretch she recorded five kills as Central built a 21-11 lead. Before winning the set 25-17.
For the match King finished with a team-high 16 kills. She also had a team-high .317 hitting percentage.
Le Maitre and classmate Brittany Schumacher led the defense for the Blue Devils. Le Maitre contributed to four blocks and Schumacher posted 15 digs. Cochran also chipped in with 10 digs.
Senior Danielle Gasser finished with 30 assists in the match.
The Blue Devils return to action tomorrow in a road match at NEC rival Bryant.
