Volleyball Sweeps FDU, 25-23, 25-12, 25-16
The Central Connecticut volleyball team defeated Fairleigh Dickinson in three sets on Saturday.
The Central Connecticut women's volleyball team defeated Fairleigh Dickinson in three sets on Saturday afternoon. The win improves the Blue Devils to 13-7 and 5-2 in Northeast Conference play. Junior's Emily Cochran and Blaike King each posted double-digit kills in the match.
The Blue Devils won the opening set 25-23, then captured the next two by scores of 25-12 and 25-16.
In the opening set King, Cochran and senior Sara DeLacey all recorded three kills. Freshman Emma Le Maitre contributed to a pair of blocks and also had two kills.
In the second set, King took over delivering five kills on seven attacks with zero errors. Defensively, DeLacey, Le Maitre, Cochran and junior Jamie Rademacher all contributed with blocks, as Central limited the Knights to 12 points.
Cochran posted a set-high six kills in the third. She was joined on the attack by Rademacher and King who posted three kills each. As a team the Blue Devils posted four blocks in the set, with Rademacher, DeLacey, Le Maitre, Cochran and senior Danielle Gasser all contributing. The Blue Devils limited FDU to only 16 points in the third set.
Gasser posted a match-high 33 assists and freshman Brittany Schumacher had a match-high 18 digs.
Cochran finished with 12 kills, while King had 11. DeLacey and Le Maitre were the leading blockers for the Blue Devils with 5 and 4, respectively.
The Blue Devils return to action tomorrow with a single match against St. Francis (NY). That is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. in Detrick Gym.
