Volleyball Sweeps Tournament
The Central Connecticut Volleyball team swept two matches on Saturday giving them a perfect 3-0 record in the CCSU Blue Devil Invitational. Today's wins improve Central's record to 5-4 on the season.
The Central Connecticut Volleyball team swept two matches on Satruday giving them a perfect 3-0 record in the CCSU Blue Devil Invitational. Today's wins improve Central's record to 5-4 on the season. They defeated Bucknell in a back-and-forth match which went to extra points in the fifth set. The Blue Devils then rallied to take down Stony Brook in four sets.
Game 1
Central took sets two(25-21), three(26-24) and five(21-19) in the victory over Bucknell. Four Blue Devils register double-digit kills in the match. Junior Blaike King led the squad with a team-high 19 kills. Junior Emily Cochran and Senior Sara DeLacey each contributed 15 kills. Junior Jamie Rademacher added an even 10.
Defensively, the Blue Devils dominated at the net led by Rademacher's 6 blocks and four from DeLacey. Also contributing, was freshman Brittany Schimacher who posted 20 digs. King had 16 digs and Cochran posted 15.
Senior captain, and tournament Most Valueable Player, Danielle Gasser posted set totals of11,16, 12, 10 and nine assists to total 59 in the match. She also had seven digs, two aces and a pair of kills.
Game 2
The Blue Devils worked more quickly in their final game, defeating Stony Brook in four sets. Central took the opening two sets(25-19,25-21) before rebounding to capture the fourth(25-11).
Cochran led the way in the Stony Brook match. She delivered 20 kills on 46 attacks for a .304 hitting percentage. She also had a pair of huge solo blocks. Once again assisting on most of the points was Gasser who recorded 45 assists in the match.
DeLacey had a team-high .545 hitting percentage on 12 kills in 22 attacks. King also had 12 kills in the match.
Defensivly, Brittany Schumacher posted 25 digs and the Blue Devils dominated the net with 13 team blocks. Contributing solo blocks were DeLacey(3), Cochran(2) and junior Jennifer Waddill(1). Rademacher, DeLacey, Waddill, Gasser and Cochran all also contributed to tandem blocks.
The Blue Devils will return to action next weekend at the Dartmouth Invitational.

Danielle Gasser earned MVP Honors for her performance this weekend. The Blue Devil setter posted match totals of 29, 59 and 45 assists. Giving her a 133 assists on the weekend.
