Volleyball Drops Season Opener 3-0
The Central Connecticut volleyball team dropped their season opener on the road at Holy Cross on Friday afternoon. The Blue Devils fell in straight sets to the Crusaders 25-13, 26-24 and 25-20.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team dropped their season opener on the road at Holy Cross on Friday afternoon. The Blue Devils fell in straight sets to the Crusaders 25-13, 26-24 and 25-20. Junior Emily Cochran led the attack with 11 kills on the day.
The Blue Devils struggled in the opening set, but senior Danielle Gasser posted a .667 hitting percentage and recorded seven assists.
Central rebounded in the second set pushing the Crusaders to the final point. The Blue Devils tied the set at 24-24, but the Crusaders were able to score off the Blue Devil serve and then add the winning point on the next serve. Junior Jennifer Waddill and sophomore Blaike King each contributed four kills in the set.
The final set was also close with the Blue Devils holding a 13-12 lead before Holy Cross took the lead. Central didn't allow the Crusaders to pull away as the set was tied again at 15-15 and 16-16. Several errors cost the Blue Devils late as Holy Cross pulled away for a 25-20 victory.
Gasser posted 29 assists and a team best .300 hitting percentage on the day. Waddill contributed seven kills and seven digs in her first action for the Blue Devils. Making her collegiate debut, Brittany Schumacher recorded 18 digs and a pair of assists.
The Blue Devils return to action tomorrow for a doubleheader at Northeastern. Central will play Fairleigh Dickinson at 10 a.m. and then host Northeastern at 12:30 p.m. All three of these games are part of the Beanpot Classic Tournament that is co-hosted by Holy Cross and Northeastern.
