Volleyball Falls to SHU in Four Sets
Junior Emily Cochran had 17 kills in the match and Freshman Emma Le Maitre contributed to seven blocks.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team fell to Sacred Heart in four sets on Sunday afternoon. The loss drops the Blue Devils to 10-7 on the season and 2-2 in Northeast Conference play. The Pioneers improve to 13-5 and 4-0. Central was led by 17 kills from junior Emily Cochran.
The Blue Devils dropped the opening set of the match 25-16, but rebounded in the second set with a 25-22 victory. In the second set, Cochran landed six kills in 14 attacks with zero errors. Freshman Emma Le Maitre dominated the net contributing to four of the team's five blocks in the set.
Sacred Heart was pushed to the four set victory by four players who finished with double-digit kills. The Pioneers took the sets 25-17 and 25-14.
For Central, senior Sara DeLacey finished with 11 kills on 21 attacks and a .429 hitting percentage. Cochran ended the day hitting 17-of-51 with only four errors. Senior Danielle Gasser posted a match-high 35 assists and Le Maitre contributed to seven of the team's 10 blocks.
The Blue Devils return to action on Saturday at St. Francis (PA). They will play at Robert Morris on Sunday, both games are scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
