Volleyball Falls to Long Island, 3-1

The Central Connecticut volleyball team dropped their first conference match of the 2011 season on Saturday afternoon. Central fell to Long Island in a close match that went four sets. The Blue Devils and Blackbirds reached extra points in the second and third sets of the match. Central is now 10-6 on the season and 2-1 in NEC play. LIU improves to 8-10 and 3-1.
Long Island captured the first two sets of the match behind a strong effort from Annika Foit who delivered 15 of her match-high 25 kills as the Blackbirds built a 2-0 lead.
Central answered with a 28-26 extra point victory in the third set of the match. Senior Sara DeLacey was nine-for-nine on the attack in the set. Senior Danielle Gasser posted nine assists and juniors Jamie Rademacher and Emily Cochran teamed up for one of the blue Devils two blocks in the set. DeLacey and junior Jennifer Waddill recorded the Blue Devils other block in the set.
DeLacey led the Blue Devils in hitting percentage with a .522 mark. She was 15-of-23 on the attach with only three errors. Gasser posted 47 assists in the match and Rademacher contributed to six blocks.
The Blue Devils will wrap their five game homestand tomorrow when they host Sacred Heart in Detrick Gym at 1 p.m.
