
Women's Track & Field 3rd After Day One at NEC's; Stewart Wins Weight Throw
The Central Connecticut women's track and field program opened competition at the Northeast Championships on Sunday at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island, NY. Wenesha Stewart highlighted the opening day, setting a school-record to win the weight throw.
Through four scored events, the Blue Devils are in third with 27 points, just behind Wagner (33) and Stonehill (29.5).

TRACK HIGHLIGHTS
- Central had three runners in the 3,000 meter final. Juliana Cancellieri (9:48.30) placed second, followed by Maegan Desmarais (10:07.28) in fifth and Rebecca Carusone (10:44.34) in 12th.
- In the 60m hurdles prelims, Alissa Hurd (9.45), Taina DeJesus (9.50) and Shania McCall (9.53) qualified for Monday's final by finishing 5-6-7.
- Maegan Desmarais turned in the seventh-fastest time ( (5:19.63) in the mile prelims.
- Kayla Logan ran 1:00.07 in the 400m, which was the eighth fast time in the prelims.
- In the 500m preliminaries, Kaylee Gravel ran 1:18.38 which was the sixth-fastest time.
- Rachel Bartolucci (2:22.75) qualified sixth in the 800m prelims.
THROWS HIGHLIGHTS
- Stewart won the weight throw with a mark of 16.67 meters, setting a new school-record. Marina Perry (14.45m) and Payton Lowe (14.18m) placed eighth and ninth, respectively.
JUMPS HIGHLIGHTS
- Alissa Hurd placed seventh by clearing 1.59 meters. Erin Egan was ninth with a height of 1.5 meters.
- Abigail Burgess leapt 5.28 meters in the long jump to place seventh. Egan narrowly missed the top 10 with a mark of 5.17 meters.
