
Winkler Sets Javelin Mark In Outdoor Opener
Senior has top five Javelin throws in program history after strong showing Thursday
The Central Connecticut State men's and women's track and field teams began the outdoor portion of its season on Thursday at the Raleigh Relays. The three day event kicked off Thursday and runs through Saturday.
The Blue Devils highlight came in the men's javelin as Colin Winkler set the school record as he finished second in a field of 40 entrants, with a throw of 71.36m. All told Winkler had five throws that surpassed 2023 mark of Logan Ratcliff, 67.13m. Alex Herron finished 18th in the event with a top throw of 52.79m.
Wenesha Stewart threw 12.59m in the shot put on Thursday, good for 28th place, in a field of 50 competitors.
Aiden Budge won his section of the 1500m, running 3:52.86, and finished 134th in a field of 202. Salvatore Masciarelli was 183rd at 3:58.34.
Eddie Nicholas (9:03.52) and Yankarlos Diaz (9:16.61) placed 43rd and 59th respectively in the 3000m steeplechase, an event that saw 71 competitors begin the race.
