Blake Wins Age Group at World Master's Mountain Running Championship in Spain on Friday
Central Connecticut State head cross country and track & field coach Eric Blake ran in the 2024 World Master Mountain Running Championship on Friday in Spain, placing first in the men's 45-year-old age group. It is his third title, having won the 40-year old age group last year in Portugal and the 35-39 group at the 2014 championship in Austria.
The 23rd Annual World Master's Running Championship was held in Canfranc-Estacion (Huesca), Spain. The course covered 6 km, rising 986 meters to reach Larraca, overlooking the Canfranc Valley. Blake finished the race in 47:02.97 to place eighth overall and the top finish by an American. A total of 352 runners completed the race, led by Eduard Hernandez Teixidor in 43:45.88.
Blake was the first finisher in the men's 35-50 race on Friday morning. The M45 second place finisher crossed at 48:33.91.
