Track Sets Seven Personal Bests in Boston
Women's indoor track competed in the John Thomas Terrier Classic Friday.
After the first day of the John Thomas Terrier Classic, the Central Connecticut women's indoor track and field team set seven personal bests in six different events. The men's team competes tomorrow, Jan. 26 starting at 10 a.m. inside the Boston University Track and Tennis Center.
In the track events, senior Dawn Hubbell was the only Blue Devil to compete in the 1 mile finishing with a time of 5:26.80. Junior Taylor Davis recorded a personal best in the 60 meter dash completing the event in 8.17 for a 10th place finish.
During the 200 meter dash, three CCSU runners set new personal records. Out of a field of 157 runners, senior Sierra Nesmith finished sixth with a time of 24.98 almost two seconds faster than her previous best time in the event. Davis completed the race in 26.31 and freshman Samantha Vasquez beat her previous best time of 29.00 with a 27.64 finish.
Vasquez also beat her 400 meter time finishing with a time of 1:02.54. Nesmith completed the event in 57.09 earning a 16th place finish out of a field of over 100 runners.
Senior McKenna Killian completed the 500 meter dash in 1:19.97 and junior Megan Brawner finished shortly behind at 1:20.75.
In the 1000 meter run, sophomore Kaitlyn Stevens and freshman Libby Walker represented Central with times of 3:18.03 and 3:33.33 respectively.
Brawner also competed in the 800 meter run finishing in the top 35 with a time of 2:16.84. Junior Kailyn Accetura crossed the finish line at 2:46.05 and sophomore Emily Appleton recorded a personal best time of 2:48.98 crushing her previous time of 2:53.31 in the event.
In the field events, Killian recorded 4.76 meters in the long jump and freshman Danyelle Engels set a personal best in the shot put at 10.81 meters.
Engels also competed in the weighted throw along with junior Celine Delice. Engles threw 7.69 meters and Delice an impressive 11.47 meters.
Juniors Kadizha Benjamin and Hailey Rospierski both recorded a leap of 1.55 meters along with nine other athletes to tie for a 19th place finish.
Track is back in Boston next weekend for the New England Championships in the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center on Feb. 1-2.
