Women's Track Earns Six Medals at NEC Championship
Women's track totaled 63 points and finished fifth.
The Central Connecticut women's indoor track and field team finished fifth at the 2019 Northeast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship in Staten Island, NY. The team totaled 63 points and earned six medals. Mount St. Mary's was crowned the champion with 138 points.
Senior Dawn Hubbell was crowned the 2019 NEC 5,000-meter run champion finishing with a time of 17:40.47. She also won the silver medal in the 3,000-meter clocking in at 10:10.07.
Junior Megan Brawner won two medals of her own. She earned the silver in the one mile with a time of 5:03.97 and the bronze medal in the 800-meter run.
Junior Hailey Rospierski earned two silver medals. She recorded a time of 8.85 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles beating her previous personal best of 8.86 seconds. In the women's high jump, Rospierski leaped 1.67 meters to bring home the silver.
Morgan Ricci set two personal bests. In the women's 3,000-meter she clocked in at 11.34.02 for a 13th place finish. In the 5,000-meter run Ricci recorded a new best time of 19:48.20 to finish in 12th place. Madeline Mondo competed in both events with a 12th place finish (11:04.15) in the 3,000-meter and 10th place finish (19:03.95) in the 5,000-meter.
The women's DMR team consisting of Brawner, Sierra Nesmith, McKenna Kilian and Hubbell came in fourth place with the fastest DMR time this season at 12:22.28.
The 4x400 relay team including Samantha Vasquez, Taylor Davis, Kadizha Benjamin, and Rospierski came in ninth place at 4:16.97.
Nesmith competed in the 200 and 400-meter dash. In the 200-meter she earned an eighth place finish with a time of 25.69 seconds. She finished fifth in the 400-meter dash after clocking in at 57.17 seconds.
Kilian came in seventh place in the long jump recording a jump of 5.54 meters. She also competed in the high jump finishing seventh at 1.61 meters. Benjamin finished 13th in the event jumping 1.53 meters.
In the shot put, freshman Danyelle Engels threw 10.85 meters for a 11th place finish. Engels set a personal best in the women's weighted throw at 9.32 meters.
Abrah Toomey and Celine Delice also competed in the weighted throw throwing 13.33 and 10.38 meters respectively.
Women's track and field competes next on Sunday, Feb. 24 at the BU Last Chance Meet in Boston, MA.
