Women's Indoor Track Competes at Joe Donahue Games
CCSU set six personal bests at the Joe Donahue Games.
The Central Connecticut women's indoor track and field team set six personal bests at the Joe Donahue Games in Boston, MA on Friday inside the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center.
Sophmore Kailyn Accetura and freshman Danyelle Engles recorded best throws of 5.36 and 10.57 meters respectively. Rookie Kaitlyn Stevens and senior Abrah Toomey also competed in the event. Stevens threw 6.46 meters and Toomey threw 9.99 meters.
In the weighted throw, Engles beat her distance with a 8.78 meter throw. Sophomore Celine Delice also recorded a personal best throwing 11.97 meters.
Junior Hailey Rospierski finished eighth in the long jump at 4.97 meters and triple jump specialist Sierra Nesmith grabbed a third-place finish after a jump of 11.12 meters. Nesmith was also the only Blue Devil to compete in the 500-meter run which she came in second with a time of 1:18.24.
Two veterans competed in the one-mile race. Dawn Hubbell finished fifth overall with a time of 5:17.83 and Madeline Mondo came in 13th place at 5:36.10.
Two Central rookies, Libby Walker and Emily Appleton, beat their previous times in the 800-meter run. Walker recorded a time of 2:39.75 and Appleton 2:53.31.
Junior Megan Brawner was the only runner for Central to compete in the 1,000-meter run and finished second overall with a time of 2:59.61.
Four Blue Devils participated in the 200-meter dash. Nesmith was first in for Central at 26.77 for a seventh-place finish. Junior Taylor Davis crossed the finish line at 27.25, Rospierski at 28.48, and freshman Samantha Vasquez finished with a time of 29.00.
The women's 4x400 meter relay team consisting of Vasquez, Brawner, Walker, and Appleton grabbed a fifth-place finish with a time of 4:38.31.
The women's track and field team travels back to Boston next week for the John Thomas Invitational on Friday, January 25.
