Blue Devils Showout at UConn Northeast Challenge
Central competes next weekend at the Larry Ellis Invitational.
The Central Connecticut women's track and field team had an impressive showing at the Northeast Classic on Saturday. The University of Connecticut hosted the event in Storrs, CT and the Blue Devils came in ninth out of a field of 10 teams.
In the 100 meter dash, junior Erica Snape finished in 12.73 seconds followed by freshman Edwina Lorient who set a personal best in the event at 13.95 seconds.
Two other Blue Devils set collegiate bests in the 200 meter dash. Junior Taylor Davis set a personal best with a time of 26.50 and freshman Kelly Hurd beat her previous time with 27.98 seconds. Snape and Lorient also ran in the event finishing at 26.78 and 31.43 seconds respectively.
Davis also set a personal best in the 400 meter dash. She completed the event in 1:02.83. Freshman Kadizha Benjamin and Hurd also ran finishing in 1:01.37 and 1:04.72.
Three Blue Devils ran in the 800 meter run. Sophomore Angie Rafter led coming in eighth place with a time of 2:17.51 followed by freshman Ashley Dana in 10th place at 2:18.86. Sophomore Kailyn Accetura finished in 2:42.07.
In the 5,000 meter run, sophomore Kaitlyn Stevens and senior Morgan Ricci came in seventh and eighth place with times of 20:17.21 and 20:30.11 respectively.
Junior Hailey Rospierski represented Central in the 100 meter hurdles coming in 11th place with a time of 14.74 seconds. Seniors Sierra Nesmith and McKenna Kilian ran the 400 meter hurdles coming in fifth and eighth place at 1:03.09 and 1:05.33.
In the 3,000 meter steeplechase, senior Madeline Mondo recorded a time of 12:12.43. The women's 4x100 relay team (Snape, Nesmith, Kilian, and Davis) set a collegiate best at 49.10 seconds. The 4x400 team (Dana, Rafter, Nesmith, Kilian) finished in 4:02.58 in eighth place.
Benjamin set a personal best in the high jump with a height of 1.52 meters for a ninth place finish. Kilian also set a personal best, but in the long jump, with a leap of 5.43 meters putting her at fifth place. Rospierski competed in the event as well posting 5.15 meters.
In the hammer throw, senior Abrah Toomey recorded a throw of 42.11 meters. She also set a personal best in the javelin with a throw of 36.05 meters. Junior Gianna D'Amato set a collegiate best as well after throwing the javelin 39.96 meters.
Freshman Danyelle Engels along with Delice competed in the discus throw. Engels set a personal best with a throw of 39.58 meters earning a ninth place finish. Delice came in 20th place after a throw of 28.19 meters.
The Central Connecticut track and field team competes next at the Larry Ellis Invitation in Princeton, NJ on Friday, April 19.
