Women's Track & Field Has Strong Showing at CCSU Blue Devil Invite
CCSU will host the Northeast Conference championships on May 4-5.
The Central Connecticut women's track & field team hosted the CCSU Blue Devil Invite on Saturday, April 27, at the CCSU Track & Field Complex. The Blue Devils had three competitors each claim two event wins.

Juniors Taylor Davis and Erica Snape took the top two spots in the 100 meter dash. Davis won in 12.92, while Snape was just behind at 12.95 seconds. Freshman Edwina Lorient had a time of 14.21 in the event. In the 200 meter dash, Davis placed second in 26.60 and Snape was fourth in 26.84.
Freshman Samantha Vasquez won the 400 meter run by .01 second over teammate freshman Kelly Hurd. Vasquez finished in 1:03.63, followed by Hurd at 1:03.64.
In the 800 meter run, sophomore Angelia Rafter turned in a time of 2:16.45 to win the event, while junior Megan Brawner (2:16.73) and freshman Ashley Dana (2:20.96) placed second and third.
Senior McKenna Kilian won the 400 meter hurdles in 1:06.55, followed by junior Kadizha Benjamin (1:10.68).
Kilian also won the high jump, clearing 1.65 meters. Juniors Hailey Rospierski and Benjamin were third and fourth. Rospierski had a height of 1.60 meters, while Benjamin had 1.55.
Freshman Danyelle Engels won the shot put and discus. In the shot put she had a throw of 10.83 meters, while she had a throw of 35.60 meters in the discus. Senior Abrah Toomey had a throw of 27.76 meters in the discus.
Toomey won the javelin with a throw of 36.21 meters and won the hammer throw with a throw of 43.26 meters. Junior Gianna D'Amato placed second in the javelin with a throw of 34.76 meters.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Stevens won the 3000 meter with a time of 11:02.03.
The CCSU 4x100 relay team of Snape, Vasquez, Hurd and Davis had a time of 50.89.
Seniors Dawn Hubbell and Madeline Mondo placed second and third in the 1500 meter run. Hubbell finished in 5:04.78, while Mondo finished in 5:14.78. Senior Morgan Ricci finished in 5:27.13.
The CCSU women finished with 84 points and Hartford had 48.
